WINNIPEG – Lagimodiere Boulevard was closed in both directions Tuesday afternoon after a fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer.
It appeared the driver of the southbound semi was crushed by his load of large beams. A yellow tarp covered the cab of the truck. Police announced in an email late Tuesday afternoon that the driver of the semi was dead at the scene.
Four cars were stopped a short distance ahead in what appeared to be a minor collision at about 2:45 p.m.; no officials released information on the cause of the crash, but the semi may have braked suddenly to avoid the cars ahead, causing the load of beams to shift and enter the truck’s cabin.
Lagimodiere was closed in both directions between Dugald Road and Marion Street.
