TORONTO – Washington Wizards point guard John Wall played a heck of a game Monday night, but it was the tears streaming down his face that are making headlines.

After a double-overtime victory over the Boston Celtics, Wall participated in a post-game interview with CSN Washington reporter Chris Miller.

Wall, noticeably distraught in the interview, lost six-year-old friend Miyah Telemaque-Nelson to cancer just hours earlier.

The point guard found out about her passing via text message.

“It said my little buddy has passed,” Wall told CSN Washington. “I didn’t respond. I went back to sleep and didn’t really want to think about it. It was kind of tough throughout the day knowing how hard she fought for it.”

The University of Kentucky product helped his team to victory with 26 points and 17 assists – a career-high.

“This [was] an emotional game for me,” Wall told Miller. “This [was] for Miyah, one of my close friends that I lost [and] I met last year.”

“It’s just tough man. To see a little kid fight so hard, with cancer, and can’t beat it.”

Wall went on to say he planned to donate his game-worn uniform to Miyah’s family.

According to ESPN, Wall met Telemaque-Nelson five months ago and helped start a social media campaign to help her meet recording artist and superstar Nicki Minaj.

“I was really quiet today,” Wall reflected as tears began to well up. Even the reporter seemed taken aback by his overwhelming emotions.

“I [was] talking to you before the game. You’re never like this,” said Miller. “She really touched your heart – didn’t she?”

Wall could only nod yes before reaching for his knees and letting the tears flow.
