The 2014 Rogers Santa Claus Parade takes place in downtown Vancouver Sunday.
Organizers says the 2014 edition of the annual parade will be the biggest in its history with up to 300,000 spectators expected to attend. Organizers are asking spectators to bring a food or cash donation for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.
The parade runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will affect traffic and parking in parts of Vancouver’s downtown core.
Here is a list of road closures and parking restrictions:
Set-up and Marshalling area
Parking restrictions in effect 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Road closure in effect 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- South side of W. Georgia between Cardero and Broughton
- Both sides of Alberni between Cardero and Jervis
- Both sides of Nicola between W. Georgia and Robson
- Both sides of Broughton between W. Georgia and Robson
W. Georgia will remain open as long as possible prior to the parade but road closures will be in effect on aforementioned sections of Alberni, Nicola and Broughton
Parade Route
Parking restrictions in effect 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Road closure in effect 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- W. Georgia from Cardero to Seymour
- Howe from Dunsmuir to Davie
Dispersal Area
Parking restrictions in effect 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Road closure in effect 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Both sides of Hornby between Davie and Pacific
- Both sides of Drake between Howe and Burrard
- East side of Burrard from Pacific to Davie
- The aforementioned sections of Hornby, Drake and Burrard
The 1.8-km parade route starts at Georgia and Broughton, travels east along Georgia, turns south on Howe, and finishes at Howe and Davie.
Other activities include a Christmas Square at the Vancouver Art Gallery that runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and photos with Santa at Robson Square ice rink from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
