Four local fire units arrived on scene, as well as support from the Nisku Fire Services ladder truck and RCMP.
The ladder truck was used to put out the blaze and the fire was under control by 8:13 a.m.
“They contained that fire and, upon entering the residence to fight the blaze, they discovered the body of one deceased victim,” said John R. Statton, a spokesperson for the City of Leduc.

Crews determined that individual was the only person inside the home at the time of the fire.
Officials say the fire was intense, and the entire building was destroyed. During the fire, one fire fighter fell through the main floor and a mayday was called. The fire fighter was rescued by a colleague who was able to pull the first fire fighter out of a hole in the floor.
The cause of the fire and of the death are still under investigation.
Members of the public are asked to stay away from the scene as a safety measure.
