Taylor Swift fans given free tickets after Ticketmaster cancelled originals

WATCH: Ticketmaster has given free tickets to the fans whose original tickets were mistakenly cancelled by the company. Marianne Dimain reports.

TORONTO – Two Taylor Swift fans whose concert tickets were accidentally cancelled by Ticketmaster are willing to shake off the error now that the company has offered them better tickets.

Sixteen-year-old Carly Altberg and Ashley Gerlock originally bought two pairs of pre-sale tickets to Swift’s two shows at the Rogers Centre in Oct. 2015. They were ecstatic to score the tickets so close to the front of the stage. But days later, Ticketmaster informed the teens the order was accidentally cancelled.

Carly’s mother Barbara Altberg made calls and sent emails to the company which eventually offered to waive the service fee on tickets that were farther from the stage.

But after Global News aired a story about the error on Monday, Ticketmaster offered the Thornhill students two tickets in the same section they originally purchased, but seven rows closer to the stage. They offered one of the tickets for free.

“Thank you so much for helping us out,” said Altberg in gratitude to Global News. “And putting attention on the fact that people are upset and this can prevent things from happening in the future.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Ticketmaster says these types of errors are extremely rare and in a statement said, “We have provided seats to Ms. Altberg that are better than the previous ones that were inadvertently cancelled during a manual review of the ticket orders.”

The company said it was in the process of reviewing the incident to offer Altberg and Gerlock better seats. Still, the Swift fans aren’t happy with how Ticketmaster handled the situation.

“It’s upsetting that Global News did have to get involved to make Ticketmaster want to step up and make their customer service better,” said Gerlock.

Carly’s mother Barbara Altberg shares the same feeling towards Ticketmaster. Although she’s happy that the company has taken action but says both tickets should have been given to the girls for free.

“Public expectation of what their customer service level should be is obviously way higher than what their customer service level is,” said Barbara Altberg.

There are similar seats posted on the Ticketmaster website in the platinum section but those are being sold for hundreds of dollars more than the $150 Altberg originally paid.

The teens say they tweeted Taylor Swift about the incident but have not gotten a response. They are now focusing on the excitement of going to their idol’s concert next year. They already have their costumes ready.

“I want to cry. I absolutely adore her,” said Gerlock.
