On this visit, Madonna met President Peter Mutharika as well as Yohane Banda, father of her adopted son, 9-year-old David Banda. Madonna has another Malawi-born child, Mercy Chifundo James.

According to the Daily Mail, Madonna came under fire from the grandfather of her adopted daughter Mercy by not delivering on an alleged promise to keep him in the girl’s life.

“Nobody has told me a thing about Mercy being in the country or about her welfare since she left us,” Saxon Maunde is quoted as saying. “She has my blood flowing in her veins. It is preposterous that I am not made aware of anything regarding her development.”
