OPG says leak at Pickering nuclear plant posed no risk to public

PICKERING, Ont. – Ontario Power Generation says there was no risk to the public during a leak at the Pickering nuclear power plant on Friday.

OPG says a valve opened during planned maintenance and water leaked inside the building of reactor Unit 7.

It says the leak was contained within the station and there was no impact to staff, the public or the environment.

OPG says the event has been reported to the local municipal government as well as to the province and Ottawa.

It says Unit 7 is currently shut down for a “maintenance outage.”

OPG says the cause of the leak is being investigated and the unit has been returned to its “pre-event condition.”
