Fatal pedestrian collision on Sturgeon Lake First Nation

STURGEON LAKE FIRST NATION, Sask. – A man walking in the middle of a grid road was struck by a truck and died on a Saskatchewan reserve Tuesday.

RCMP say the 60-year-old man was walking eastbound on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation when he was struck by a westbound truck, just before 6 p.m.

The driver immediately stopped, tended to the pedestrian and called for help.

Emergency services arrived at the scene but the victim was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.

The driver of the truck and his passenger did not require medical assistance.

Mounites say their initial investigation found the pedestrian was not immediately seen by the motorist and was subsequently hit. No charges have been laid.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist is helping with the investigation.

Sturgeon Lake First Nation is approximately 145 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
