Police release security footage of suspects in North York jewelry robbery

TORONTO – Toronto police are seeking the public’s help identifying two suspects connected to a jewelry store robbery at a North York strip mall in October.

Security footage released Wednesday shows two individuals wearing burkas entering the Mona Clara Jewellers at 808 York Mills Road. on Oct. 14 around 11 a.m.

One of the men entered the store with a handgun while the other took a female employee to the door and locked the premises.

The suspects then proceeded to remove approximately $500,000 of jewelry from the display cases and fled the scene through the back door.

It is believed both suspects escaped in a getaway car. Police say the robbery took about five minutes.

“With this amount of jewelry, someone may have purchased large quantity of jewelry shortly after the robbery that may point us in the right direction,” said Staff Inspector Mike Earl.

One of the suspects is described as black and five-feet, 11-inches tall. He was wearing what appeared to be a black burka with shiny details on both arms, black gloves, men’s boots, and armed with a gun.

The second suspect is described as six-feet, three-inches tall. He was wearing what appeared to be a black burka and black boots.
