The race to be Vancouver’s next mayor appears to be tightening up, with NPA challenger Kirk LaPointe only five points behind incumbent Gregor Robertson of Vision Vancouver.
A new poll from Insights West, found that among decided voters, 46 per cent plan to support Robertson, while 41 per cent will support LaPointe. COPE’s mayoral candidate, Meena Wong, has nine per cent support among decided voters.
However, Robertson has a “negative momentum score” as the election draws closer. Six per cent of residents say their views of Robertson have improved, but 25 per cent say they have gotten worse.
27 per cent of voters say they are still undecided, with only four more days to go before the civic election.
Robertson is seen as the best person to handle the environment (45%), parks and recreation (34%), arts and culture (32%), transportation (31%), housing (27%) and poverty (26%), while LaPointe is seen as the best person to manage city finances and taxation (32%), economic development (also 32%) and crime (26%).
