The future of a partnership between the City of Regina and the Regina Humane Society will be discussed at Wednesday’s executive committee meeting.

The city is re-thinking the way they provide animal control services. Options on the table include halting the partnership all together, choosing another provider, or creating a new city-run version.

The recommendation to the committee is to continue using the Regina Humane Society for animal control, and boost its funding by $760,000 per year.

“The idea is for us to negotiate an agreement that will talk about the society providing services for the city as part of a much larger new building that will be built,” said Mayor Michael Fougere. “The location of it, and the timing of it is up for discussion too.”

Fougere says the current building is too small, and he’d like a new and improved building to be located within city limits.
