TORONTO – York Regional Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed in Richmond Hill Sunday night.
Police received a 9-1-1 call after 7:30 p.m. near an entertainment district at East Beaver Creak Road and Highway 7.
Officers arrived at a parking lot next to the Keg restaurant to find a male inside his vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police say a male suspect ran from the scene through the parking lot.
Police have since identified the victim as 22-year-old Jerry Tuan Thanh Phan from Toronto.
“We have cordoned off an area with a motor vehicle we believe may have been involved in the incident. It did start outside a restaurant,” said Inspector Stuart Betts told Global News.
“It was a typical busy evening in this restaurant area. It’s a popular location and a typical busy Sunday evening crowd.”
So far, no suspect description has been released.
Witnesses with any information about the shooting are encouraged to contact police.
