The killer in the shocking murder is still on the loose but seemingly not for long.
A 55-year-old Kelowna man was killed Thursday night in a random and unprovoked attack on a city transit bus. Police won’t confirm reports he was stabbed in the neck at a stop on Baron Road.
“According to witnesses, as the male suspect left the bus he made a shoving motion towards the victim who was also a passenger. A weapon was involved but I won’t discuss the specifics of the weapon,” says Superintendent Nick Romanchuk.
Romanchuk say investigators know who they’re looking for, adding “I don’t think the location of the suspect right now is something we’re unaware of.”
RCMP are very confident they’ll soon make an arrest and solve the murder. In the meantime, Romanchuk is reassuring the public they’re not in danger.
“An event like this causes concern in the community, rightly so. But we’re on top of it, we’re firing on all cylinders and we have a plan in place to protect the public and mitigate the risk. I’m very confident in that plan. People should not be overly concerned.”
The murdered man’s name isn’t being released while family is notified. Police don’t believe he knew his killer.
