Sentencing begins for woman convicted in crash that killed friend, other driver

CALGARY – An emotional day in a Calgary courtroom as a woman who killed two people while driving drunk faced her first day of a sentence hearing.

Amie Nottebrock expressed remorse to the judge, while impact statements were read by the victims’ families.

Nearly two years ago, Nottebrock ran a red light, and t-boned a Mercedes killing her own passenger, as well as the driver of the other car.

In May, Nottebrock was convicted of two counts of criminal negligence causing death, along with charges of impaired driving.

The crown is asking for 5 to 6 years in prison, while the defence wants closer to 4.

The crown is also calling for a 10 to 15 year driving ban.

A judge is expected to reach a decision on November 3rd.

Nottebrock has a fourteen month old daughter.
