TORONTO — Former Fugees rapper Pras Michel filed a $30 million defamation lawsuit Wednesday against the New York Post over an article that claimed he “bailed on his own 9/11 concert.”
The Page Six story, published Oct. 5, reported Michel “was a no-show as the headliner for a 9/11 charity event in Hell’s Kitchen to benefit his own foundation” and that his Hope for Them foundation “bounced a check to the venue, falsely claimed MTV sponsored the fundraiser and failed to register the charity with state officials.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Michel’s lawyer Darren A. Heitner filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Broward County Court in Florida. He claims he never guaranteed a performance at the event, which had nothing to do with 9/11.
Further, Michel said he “has never owned nor been an owner, director or officer” of the foundation.
The 41-year-old Grammy winner claimed the Post showed “a reckless disregard for the truth.”
The article reported Michel did not perform at the event because he had the flu.
In addition to millions of dollars in damages, Michel is seeking a retraction.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
A rep for the Post declined comment, according to THR.
