“What to cook this week” is a weekly series featuring recipes that use local, seasonal produce. Look for new ideas and recipes every Thursday.
While you’re planning your Thanksgiving feast, pick up Brussels sprouts and cranberries at the grocery store – they’re in season and make for great side dishes on the Thanksgiving dinner table.

Brussels sprouts
Brussels sprouts are a great source of Vitamic C, as well as a source of Vitamin A, folacin and potassium. They are also relatively low in calories, but because they contain fibre, you’ll feel full and satisfied after a helping.
Avoid Brussels sprouts that are starting to turn yellow and store them in your fridge’s crisper, wrapped in paper towel inside a plastic bag.

Cranberry recipes
Canadian Thanksgiving aligns nicely with cranberries’ short growing season. If you can’t buy fresh, frozen cranberries may be substituted in many recipes.
Cranberries will keep in the fridge for several months and when frozen, they’ll keep their tart taste for up to a year.
