UPDATE: Cigarette butt to blame for west Edmonton townhouse fire

EDMONTON – Investigators say a cigarette butt sparked a fire in west Edmonton Monday morning.

It happened in the area of 183 Street and 64 Avenue.

Crews were called around 12:30 a.m. to a condo complex.

It appears the fire started on the outside of the unit.

Flames burned through the fence in the backyard and up the duplex’s walls.

The damage is estimated at $100,000.
