CALGARY – Albertans will be heading to the polls Oct. 27 to vote in four separate byelections.
Three of the byelections are in Calgary and one in Edmonton. The Tories hold 57 of 87 seats in the Alberta Legislature, so the results won’t affect the balance of power.
Here’s a closer look at the candidates running in the Calgary-Foothills, which was vacated after Independent Len Webber stepped down to run federally.
Progressive Conservative Party: Jim Prentice

Prentice defeated Thomas Lukaszuk and Ric McIver in the Progressive Conservative leadership race to become the 16th Premier of Alberta in early September.
Wildrose: Kathy Macdonald
Macdonald recently retired after serving 25 years in the Calgary Police Service where she specialized in cybercrime prevention. She is internationally recognized for her work on cybercrime legislation, identity theft protection and anti-bullying. In 2009, she was invested with the Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces by the Governor General.
New Democratic Party: Jennifer Burgess

Burgess is a technical communicator and strategist at a consulting firm.
Alberta Party: Michelle Glavine
Glavine has worked for 17 years as a public school teacher. She is the local president of the Alberta Teachers’ Association.
Liberal Party: Robert Prcic
Prcic is a businessman and a graduate of the University of Calgary. In 2012, he ran in the riding of Calgary-Northwest for the Alberta Liberals but failed to win a seat.
Green Party: Polly Knowlton Cockett
Cockett is a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary’s Wekrlund School of Education.
Independent: Dave Woody Phillips
