ABBOTSFORD – Two Abbotsford men have been taken into custody, accused of selling an opium derivative from their stores.

The drug is called doda, and it is popular in the South Asian community. The powder is made by grinding the seed pods of opium poppies. It is illegal in Canada.

It is alleged the suspects aged 48 and 51 sold doda to undercover officers beginning in early July. 

“This investigation arouse of numerous complaints out of persons within the South Asian community about the increasing use of this addictive substance in their community,” said Constable Ryan Reed with Abbotsford police.

Abbotsford’s bike squad made the arrest, but officers say the investigation took two months.
