EDMONTON – A 22-year-old who was out on bail on a slew of charges is now facing over a dozen more following a series of hit-and-run collisions in downtown Edmonton Wednesday afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Malcolm Allan with the Edmonton Police Service says four pedestrians and two vehicles were struck by the same vehicle in less than 10 minutes.

“We suspect drug involvement,” Allan said. “It’s quite unusual. There’s a series of collision, hit-and-runs. Normally these sorts of events are a one-off.”

It started around 3:30 p.m., when officers were called to the area of 105 Avenue and 100 Street.

“At that location, two individuals were walking and were struck by a vehicle. Witnesses indicate that the vehicle continued west and then turned south onto 101 Street,” Allan explained Wednesday night.

As the vehicle was heading onto 101 Street, Allan says another pedestrian was struck.

“We are unable to locate that pedestrian. Witnesses say that that person limped off.”

From there, the vehicle continued south along 101 Street for some time, before re-emerging on 105 Street around 103 Avenue.

At that point, witnesses say the car appeared to slow down for a man and woman who were crossing 104 Street.

“When these two folks were in front of the car, the vehicle then accelerated, striking the male significantly,” said Allan.

The woman was able to jump out of the way, but the man suffered serious cuts to his face and a broken leg.

“This gentleman was right up on the windshield,” added Allan.

The car didn’t stop there, though; it continued north on 105 Street, hitting two vehicles near 104 Avenue.

Allan says at that point the car was no longer driveable, so the male driver got out of the vehicle and ran from police.

The suspect, who has since been identified as Brandon Hudson, was taken into custody after a short foot chase, Allan added.

Police believe the car — a dark green 1994 Eagle Vision — belongs to an acquaintance of the suspect. Officers are treating the vehicle as stolen.

Hudson was released on bail August 8 on a slew of charges that included abandoning a child, causing the need for a child to be in protective services, and assault with a weapon among others. The charges stem from an August 2 incident.

He now faces the following charges in relation to Wednesday’s incident:

  • dangerous driving causing bodily harm
  • assault with a weapon (x3)
  • assault
  • impaired causing bodily harm
  • failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm
  • failure to stop at scene of accident with a person (x2)
  • failure to stop at the scene of an accident with a vehicle (x2)
  • theft of vehicle
  • breach of conditions (x4)

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
