EDMONTON – Northwest Edmonton traffic congestion should ease this weekend when the Anthony Henday Drive interchange at Yellowhead Trail goes into operation on Saturday.

The interchange, under construction since 2008, will create free-flow traffic, Alberta Transportation’s Alison Burns says.

The rest of the northwest Henday to Manning Freeway is expected to be finished in late October or early November, she said.

The five interchanges being built on the southwest leg – at Stony Plain Road, Lessard Road, Callingwood Road, Cameron Heights Drive and Rabbit Hill Road – are scheduled to open in October, she said.

Construction of the final portion of the Henday through northeast Edmonton, including a new bridge at Clover Bar, hasn’t started.

Requests for proposals from companies interested in working on the project are due next March.
