Police working with Interpol to track Calgary murder suspect

CALGARY – Police are working with the International Criminal Police Organization in an attempt to locate a Calgary man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a murder from 2008.

Police issued warrants for the arrest of 33-year-old Timothy (Tim) Matthew Chan in July of 2013, as part of a five-year investigation into the organized-crime-related murders of six people.

Four other Calgary men are currently facing charges as a part of Operation Desino, however, Chan has yet to be located.

He is wanted in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Kevin Steven Anaya on August 9th, 2008.

Police say Anaya was walking up to a home in the 1000 block of Marcombe Drive N.E. when he was shot by the occupants of a passing vehicle.

The occupants exited the vehicle and continued to fire at Anaya before leaving the area. He died at the scene.

Police are looking to the public for information about Chan’s current location.

When police initially issued a warrant for his arrest in 2013, it was believed he was living in Toronto’s west side with his wife and a toddler.

However, he also has connections to Edmonton and Vancouver – and investigators say it is possible he may no longer be in Canada.

“Mr. Chan travelled to quite a few countries so he really could be anywhere and he could be under an assumed name,” says Inspector Cliff O’Brien.

As such, Calgary police are working with Interpol to track him. There are approximately 130 Canadians on the Interpol list right now.

Chan is described as being 5’7” tall and weighing 170 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair and has tattoos of a Buddha on his upper right arm and two serpents and a dragon with Asian symbols on his upper left arm.

Anyone with information about Chan’s whereabouts is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
