SASKATOON – Saskatoon police dealt with two separate incidents at a downtown business overnight.
Initially, officers were called to a complaint of several people being sprayed with a chemical irritant shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Friday.
Police say an unknown male approached several people who were standing in front of the business in the 200-block of 2nd Avenue South and sprayed them with what is believed to be bear mace. The suspect then fled the area.
Several people were treated by paramedics at the scene.
Later in the night, police attended the same business in response to an assault.
Around 1:30 a.m., a disturbance originated inside the business and spilled onto the street where it escalated. Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious man lying in the middle of the street.
A 21-year-old Regina man was taken to hospital where he remains in stable condition.
A 23-year-old man is facing a charge of aggravated assault in relation to the second incident. He will appear before a Justice of the Peace Saturday evening.
Police do not believe the two incidents are related.
