CALGARY- Anti-drunk driving activists filled Tomkins Park with more than a thousand pairs of shoes Saturday afternoon.
The empty shoes represent victims killed or injured by impaired drivers.

The “Shoes That Remain Empty Forever” event is part of the empty shoes campaign that raises awareness about people killed by impaired drivers in Canada each year.
Families who lost loved ones and members of “Families for Justice” were joined by several dignitaries Saturday, including Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General Jonathan Denis.
Each year in Canada, an average of four people are killed and 174 injured by impaired drivers.
