Man pleads guilty to kidnapping, assaulting ex-fiancée

SASKATOON – A man who triggered a manhunt at the end of May in Saskatoon has pleaded guilty to kidnapping and aggravated assault.

Clinton McLaughlin, 36, appeared in provincial court Tuesday.

McLaughlin abducted his ex-fiancée Mariana Cracogna on May 30 and repeatedly beat her until she was able to escape.

Cracogna was found on the side of a highway east of Saskatoon during the evening of June 1.

Police said she had no food or water and slept outside during her ordeal.

McLaughlin will be sentenced on Nov. 21. A charge of unlawful confinement is expected to be stayed.
