Semi convoy supports Special Olympics Saskatchewan

REGINA – The eighth annual ‘World’s Largest Truck Convoy’ rolled across Saskatchewan Saturday in support of Special Olympians.

The large convoy travelled from Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon to Regina to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Saskatchewan.

The convoy was a sight to see as multiple semis drove one after another down Highway 11.

“I was driving in front of the convoy today and looking in my rear-view mirror, honestly one of the most awe-stricken things I’ve seen,” said Jennifer Ellarma, CEO of Special Olympics Saskatchewan.

“Just to see the whole Lumsden hill completely full of transport trucks all in support of Special Olympics is a pretty amazing thing.”

Residents gathered to join in on activities at Regina’s Turvey Centre which includes a BBQ, musical entertainment, face painting and a bouncy house.

A total of 57 vehicles raised $39,000 on Saturday.

Funds raised will help Special Olympics Saskatchewan provide equipment and sport programs to athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Ellarma says they have raised more than $500,000 over eight years and the most semis to take part was 63.
