PENTICTON – His mental state was so unstable he couldn’t appreciate the nature of his actions.
That’s why criminal charges won’t proceed in a Penticton stabbing attack.
It happened last February at the Mayfair Motel on Skaha Lake Road when a man broke into the room of two women and choked one of them.
A neighbour heard their screams, and when he tried to intervene, was stabbed several times suffering severe injuries.
Ralph Scott Lefteruk, 40, was charged with multiple offenses including two counts of attempted murder.
Police believed Lefteruk was high on methamphetamine.
After undergoing a psychiatric assessment, Lefteruk was declared not criminally responsible because of a mental disorder and the charges were stayed.
