SGI plate insurance rates increase

SASKATOON – Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) basic licence plate insurance rates are changing Sunday.

Rates are based on the actual risk each vehicle represents for being involved in a claim.

SGI says the majority of people will be receiving a rate increase in Saskatchewan while 17 per cent of drivers will get a decrease.

“Any rate that’s greater than $1,000 is capped at 10 per cent and any rates that are less than $1,000 dollars have dollar caps ranging from $17 to $100 depending on what their current annual rate is,” said Kelly Brinkworth, SGI media relations.

Refund cheques are to be mailed in mid-September.
