TORONTO – Toronto Hydro is warning its customers of a telephone scam from people claiming to be from the company’s collection and billing department.
The calls are being made from 1-800 number and victims are being threatened with having their electricity disconnected if they don’t immediately provide payment in form of prepaid debit card or wire transfer.

Toronto Hydro says customers are getting phone calls from people claiming to be from the ”Toronto Hydro Billing and Collection Process.”
Customers are being advised not to provide any personal information over the telephone.
Toronto Hydro says it does not ask for a pre-paid credit card payment or wire transfer in overdue account situations and their customer care department does not have a 1-800 number.
Customers are being advised to contact Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre immediately if you receive a suspicious call at 1-888-495-8501 and quote file number 844396.
