WATCH: (Aired August 1, 2014) The Burlington Skyway, linking Toronto with Niagara peninsula and border crossings into New York state, is largely out of commission because of an alleged drunk driver. Jennifer Tryon reports.
TORONTO – The Brampton truck driver who crashed his dump truck into the Burlington Skyway earlier this month is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning.
Sukhvinder Singh Rai, 34, is facing an impaired driving charge stemming from a collision on July 31 that closed the Toronto-bound lanes of the bridge for several days.
The closure caused significant delays during the long Civic Holiday weekend.
Ontario Provincial Police say Rai exceeded the legal blood alcohol limit of 80 milligrams.
Three other vehicles, a transport truck and two cars were also damaged following the initial collision.
Police say the driver suffered minor injuries and it’s unclear who will have to pay for the damages.
