FREDERICTON – New Brunswick’s Liberal leader says he would find at least $250 million in savings in the provincial budget if his party forms government next month.
Brian Gallant says a Liberal government would uncover savings by launching a strategic program review.
He says it is the same model used by former Liberal governments in Ottawa to balance the federal budget.
Gallant says the review would differ from across-the-board spending cuts.
The Liberals said last week they would boost revenue by $63 million a year by rescinding a business tax break and increasing taxes for the province’s richest one per cent.
Gallant says savings found during the strategic program review would be implemented in the second budget of a Liberal government, bringing total savings to at least $313 million.
