New residents to Saskatchewan will now have a new area code.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) as approved the area code 639. It will be assigned to new phone customers. Previous customers will keep their 306 area code.

Without the new addition, the CTRC says Saskatchewan was at risk of running out of phone numbers by August 2013.
The province is also expected to complete the switch to 10-digit dialing for local calls by May 2013
