17 people trash hockey arena in Montreal Lake

Extensive damage has been done to the Montreal Lake Hockey Arena.

RCMP say 17 people broke into the facility, and went on a destructive rampage.

Several windows were broken, sheets of plexi-glass have been shattered, and the majority of walls and ceilings have been damaged.

The vandals also threw paint on the floors, bleachers, and ice boards.

All 17 suspects are from Montreal Lake Cree Nation and are being interviewed.

One adult has been charged in this case, 18 year old Daniel Bruce Henderson. He’s facing counts of break and enter, mischief over $5000 and theft over $5000. He’ll be in court Wednesday.

Five other youth have also been charged int he incident. They’re all between 13 and 15 years old, so their names cannot be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The RCMP is working with the Montreal Lake Cree Nation Chief and Council, band members, youth workers, and child and family services in hopes of resolving the issue.
