WASHINGTON – Organizers of a sit-in at the White House to oppose a planned Canadian pipeline say dozens have been arrested today.
Organizers say at least 70 have been arrested so far over the protest against the planned Keystone XL pipeline project.
As the protesters shouted “hey-ho, Keystone XL has got to go,” police handcuffed protesters and removed them one after the other.

As many as two-thousand people are expected to participate in daily sit-ins that began today and will continue until September third.
The U-S State Department is poised to release its final environmental assessment of the project being proposed by Calgary-based oil giant Trans-Canada.
U-S President Obama will then have 90 days to decide whether the pipeline permit is in the U-S interest.
Keystone XL will carry millions of barrels of oilsands crude a week from northern Alberta through the American heartland to Gulf Coast refineries.
Obama is currently on vacation with his family in Martha’s Vineyard.
