CALGARY – One person was killed in a crash northeast of Calgary on Wednesday morning.
It happened south of Irricana, around 9:20 a.m. Officials say an SUV was travelling on Highway 9 when it collided head-on with a dump truck.
“Early investigation leads us to believe that the SUV was northbound, lost control and crossed the centre line into the path of the oncoming tractor trailer,” explains Sgt. Glen Demmon from RCMP. “The was nothing the truck could do.”

The driver of the SUV was killed, and the 38-year-old truck driver was rushed to hospital in critical, potentially life-threatening condition.
The collision sparked a massive fire.
The highway around the area was closed while police investigated. RCMP are looking at driver error or a possible medical condition as being factor in the crash.
