MONTREAL – Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s first Canadian restaurant was evacuated Wednesday night, hours after it first opened its doors in Montreal.
The restaurant, called Laurier Gordon Ramsay, issued a statement saying it experienced a malfunction with its sprinkler equipment.
It said the situation is under control and that the restaurant sustained very limited damage.

The restaurant, a Montreal landmark once known as Rotisserie Laurier BBQ, also apologized “to all affected customers for the incident.”
Ramsay, a 44-year-old Scottish-born chef, is internationally renowned through a string of acclaimed restaurants and popular cookbooks.
He is also known for his scorching profanity on high-rated cooking TV shows.
Note to readers: This is a corrected story. A previous version incorrectly stated Ramsey issued a statement when it was in fact issued by the restaurant.
