HALIFAX – Police in Halifax say they are laying additional charges against a man arrested for allegedly assaulting a homeless man in a downtown park Wednesday afternoon.
Authorities allege 24-year-old Jaspaul Nijjar breached his release conditions after he was spotted Thursday back in Victoria Park.
Officers arrested Nijjar the previous day after a bystander reported witnessing an assault against a 61-year-old homeless man sitting on a park bench.
The victim’s face was injured and he was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The suspect was released under conditions to refrain from communicating with the victim and to stay away from the area where the assault took place.
Besides assault and resisting arrest, the man now faces charges of breach of an undertaking and breach of probation.
