Woman killed in head-on crash on Trans-Canada Highway

CALGARY- RCMP have confirmed a woman is dead after a head-on collision Tuesday morning on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Golden B.C.

The highway was shut down  at about 8:30 a.m. when two vehicles collided 28 kilometres east of Golden near the west entrance to Yoho National Park.

RCMP say a westbound Toyota Camry crossed the centre line and crashed into an eastbound pickup truck.

A woman who was a passenger in the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. The elderly driver was flown by STARS air ambulance to Foothills hospital in Calgary with serious injuries.

Two people in the pickup truck were transported to hospital in Golden with non-life threatening injuries.

The highway was reduced to single lane alternating traffic while police investigated.

The Trans-Canada reopened Tuesday afternoon at around 3 p.m.
