WATCH: Number of suspicious fires in Vernon keeps rising

VERNON – The number of suspicious fires in the Vernon area continues to climb steadily higher.

Fire crews fought two more blazes over the weekend bringing the total number of suspicious fires to nineteen.

After 1:00am Saturday morning fire crews were called to Tronson Road where a motor home was burning in a storage compound.

That blaze also damaged a nearby pick-up truck.

Around 10:20pm Sunday evening fire crews were called out again to fight a grass fire in Becker Park.

RCMP say there is no reason for a fire to have started in the park but it’s difficult to say if the blaze is tied to the string of suspicious fires that officers are investigating.

“It is totally out of the norm of all the other fires we are investigating. That’s not to say it isn’t [connected],” says RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyke, “However, because of the fact that fires have been set in Becker Park just about yearly and it is out of the norm of the other ones it is really really hard to say.”

Police continue to ask the public to report anything suspicious.
