NDP candidate Jennifer French has won the Oshawa riding, pulling it away from PC candidate Jerry J. Ouellette.
French won 46.6 per cent of the popular vote, beating the Tories’ 30.63 per cent.
French has been a teacher for more than 10 years. She has had a diverse career as an educator, working in both Ontario and Japan. French is completing her second Master’s degree in education. She is actively involved in Oshawa’s arts community and a member of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario in Durham.

Once a PC stronghold, Oshawa had been represented by Ouellette since 1995. In 2011, he defeated former NDP candidate Mike Shields by more than 2,000 votes. Prior to ’95, Oshawa was an NDP riding.
Liberal candidate Esrick Quintyn won 19 per cent of the popular vote, leaving him in third place.
