WEST KELOWNA — Gordon Olson of West Kelowna isn’t a greedy man but he could be now that the Montreal Canadiens have made it to the Eastern Conference final after defeating the Boston Bruins Wednesday.
Despite growing up in the Okanagan, Olson has always been a Habs fan.
“When I played hockey as a kid, I was a goalie and my hero was Ken Dryden,” says Olson.
Olson is also a big Volkswagen fan.
“Any Volkswagen is good for me,” he says.
His latest purchase was a 1971 VW deluxe van that he bought from another West Kelowna resident who happens to also be a huge Habs fan.
The van is decked out with anything and everything Montreal Canadiens including the team’s logo and paint scheme.
The head of the stickshift is a Montreal Canadiens’ puck.
The van has also been autographed by some of the Montreal greats including Guy Lafleur, Maurice “Rocket’ Richard and Yvan Cournoyer.
At one time, the van contained seats from the Montreal Forum but the original owner wouldn’t part with them.
But Olson is ready to part with the van.
He’s put it up for sale on-line and his friends say he should cash in.
“Since Montreal won my friends have been calling, telling me the price for the van has doubled overnight,” says Olson with a chuckle.
But Olson says he’s not going to take advantage of the NHL limelight being on Montreal and is staying with his original asking price of $12,000.
“It only has 64,000 miles. But I’m not going to raise the price just because the Habs won.”
Olson says he’s had the ad posted for about 10 days but so far there have been no takers.
That might change if Montreal makes it to the Stanley Cup final.
