Geography

Don Valley East stretches as far north as Finch Avenue (save for Shawnee Park) and as far south as Sunrise Avenue, Victoria Park Avenue in the east and the Don River, the CN Rail line, Don Mills Road, and Leslie Street in the west.

Liberal Michael Coteau won easily  in 2011, defeating PC candidate Michael Lende by over 7,500 votes. The riding was held by Liberal MPP David Caplan from 1997 to 2011, and before that his mother Elinor Caplan held the riding of Oriole, which had similar boundaries, from 1985 to 1997.

By the numbers

It’s a multicultural riding, with just 38.9 per cent of people listing English as their mother tongue, but no other language garners more than seven per cent.
