WINNIPEG – Coun. Paula Havixbeck promised Wednesday to do away with the powerful Executive Policy Committee if she’s elected mayor.
“I would be getting rid of something like Executive Policy Committee that makes decisions in secret,” Havixbeck said Wednesday morning on CJOB Radio.
The Charleswood-Tuxedo-Whyte Ridge councillor plans to register Wednesday as a mayoral candidate in the Oct. 22 election.

“I’m running for our citizens because I believe the citizens deserve better,” said the one-term city councillor, who has become one of Mayor Sam Katz’s most vocal critics. She also said she doesn’t think Winnipeggers should trust the current mayor.
Havixbeck will be the first woman and the sixth candidate to register.
Former councillor Gord Steeves, lawyer Brian Bowman, Michael Vogiatzakis, Gordon Warren and Michel Fillion have already registered to run for mayor.
Katz hasn’t said whether he intends to run again.
