Business plans to roll retro ice cream carts back onto Moncton streets

MONCTON – Ice cream carts will be rolling their way onto Moncton streets this summer.

The retro carts have become few and far between in cities and towns across Canada since 2002, but it’s time to bring them back, says the owners of Good Guys Ice Cream.

With a high-tech twist.

“People are going to be able to go on our Facebook and check where the bikes are in real time,” Drew Lapointe, co-owner of Good Guys Ice Cream in Moncton. “We want to bring them into the modern and hope it flies.”

“A lot of people don’t carry cash on them anymore so we wanted to offer a way we could take their payment right there though our cells phones,” co-owner Chris Morton said.

They’re hoping to bring business to their customers, the old-fashioned way. For now, they’ll be putting three bikes on the road in mid-May.

“We are going to secure business without having to wait for customers to come to us,” Lapointe said.
