CALGARY- Parents are being warned to brace for a hike in school fees.
On Thursday, the Calgary Board of Education held a news conference regarding the fees. While they haven’t confirmed if they’ll go up, officials did say their upcoming budget will no longer subsidize the extra expense.

Parents are already on the hook for transportation costs as well as supplying learning materials.
“Fees are a reality,” said Brad Grundy, CFO of the Calgary Board of Education. “Whether you want to call it a fortunate or an unfortunate reality, I’ll leave that up to you. It’s the reality of the current system.”

He adds that no student will be denied access to education because they cannot afford additional school fees.
The 2014-15 budget goes before the board on May 6.
