Surrey dad fighting for his life after snowmobiling accident

More than a week after a snowmobiling accident near Whistler left a Surrey man in critical condition, he is still fighting for his life, and friends are rallying to help him and his family.

Richard “Chuckie” Smith, a father of two, was snowmobiling in Brandywine Falls Provincial Park on April 13 when he went over a cliff.

Smith was taken to hospital in critical condition and is currently in the neurological intensive care unit in a coma.

A Facebook page has been set up to provide updates and support to Smith and his family.

“[He is] still much the same today, not responding, still unsettled with his cranial pressures, respiratory issues better today, he still has a lot of secretions coming from his chest… they started a different antibiotic yesterday… still dealing with fevers,” a statement said Monday.

Friends have also set up a crowdfunding page to raise money for Smith, his wife and two children. So far, more than $7,000 has been donated.
