EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers have hired a new assistant general manager.
Bill Scott, 33, has been appointed to the position after holding the title of G.M. for the past four years of the Oilers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Barons.
During his time as the Barons G.M., Scott helped the team reach the playoffs in all four seasons.
“I would like to welcome Bill and his family to Edmonton. Bill has done an exceptional job managing all facets of the Barons day to day operations and has played a large part in their success over the past four years,” said Oilers General Manager Craig MacTavish.
The Oilers say Scott’s responsibilities will include player and staff contract negotiations, scheduling, salary arbitration, salary cap management and day to day administrative duties.
Scott replaces Ricky Olczyk who was offered another position within in the organization but declined.
“I’d like to thank Ricky for his seven years of service with the Oilers organization and wish him nothing but the best during this transition period and with future endeavours,” said MacTavish.
Bill Scott also spent four seasons as the AHL’s director of hockey operations.
