WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg nursing home was evacuated Sunday morning after its basement was flooded.
The 86 residents of Golden Links Lodge in St. Vital were taken to other personal care homes, including the St. Vital ActionMarguerite, the St. Boniface ActionMarguerite, St. Amant Centre and Vista Park Lodge.

“At this point, we’re making plans for the next 72 hours,” said Lori Lamont, the Winnipeg Health Region’s chief nursing officer. “As we make more definitive plans, we know what the time frame will be, we’ll be informing residents and their families.”
Health region officials said they didn’t know what caused the flooding of the basement, which houses all of the building’s mechanical systems, at about 3 a.m. Sunday.

The water was more than two metres deep in the basement, officials said.
The families of most residents were located Sunday but those who haven’t heard from staff or who need more information about where a Golden Links Lodge is staying can call 204-788-8004 for details.
