Strathcona RCMP arrest suspected Edmonton drug trafficker

EDMONTON – A week-long investigation by the Strathcona County RCMP Drug Unit has resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old, and the seizure of drugs worth just over $67,000.

RCMP made the bust after executing a search warrant on an Edmonton home last Friday. In addition to an illegal taser gun, police found the following drugs at the residence:

• approximately 1 pound of MDMA
• approximately 88.17 grams of MDMA (ecstasy, loose powder)
• approximately 54 capsules of MDMA (ecstasy)
• approximately 10.5 ounces of soft cocaine
• approximately 16.71 grams of cannabis marijuana
• approximately 57.50 grams of cannabis marijuana candy (14 candies)
• approximately 11.3 grams of cannabis resin (hash)
• approximately 1.5 ml of cannabis resin (hash) oil
• approximately 37.42 grams of ketamine powder
• approximately 161 doses of LSD/acid
• approximately 27 tablets of Dexedrine prescription medication

Investigators also seized more than $53,000 cash, and numerous other drug paraphernalia said to be related to drug trafficking.

Derrick Cheung has been arrested and charged with:

• Three counts of trafficking of a controlled substance
• Five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
• One count of possession of a controlled substance
• Three counts of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000
• One count of possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000
• One count of possession of a prohibited weapon

After appearing before a Justice of the Peace, Cheung was released on $7,500 cash bail with numerous conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 28.
