When Eric Idle responds to your tweets…

April 15, 2014. I have been a huge fan of Monty Python ever since I watched Search of the Holy Grail in the theatre with a man clicking coconuts together pretending to be horse hooves. Of the troupe, Eric Idle was always my favorite. His musical Spamalot is launching tonight at the Yates by Hatrix Theatre & Danceworks. I play the part of the Historian. Mr. Idle is on twitter and as a lark I sent him a tweet asking if he had any advice for the cast. I really didn’t expect anything but to my surprise he responded with “Be funny.” I was as giddy as a little school girl. I guess I still get star struck and since I’m sure this is as close as I’ll ever get to having any kind of communication with a comedy icon I am totally cherishing this. And as if that wasn’t enough, today I tweeted out, “Dress rehearsal of Spamalot last night. The cast took Eric Idle’s advice to heart and were indeed funny.” This morning, to my shock & delight, he tweeted back to me AGAIN!! This time he said, “Now tell them to be serious.” I’m over the moon. (And by the way it’s a full moon so it’s extra special.) Spamalot opens tonight and runs until Sunday. Hope you can come out to see it. It really is funny…Or maybe it’ll be serious…

Coming up on Scene & Heard tonight I talk to Brian Treadwell from Alberta Parkinson. It has become a standard occurence with Brian that my brain misfires and I call him Brian Parkinson. I blame the many interviews I did with Brian Parkinson who directed New West Theatre and university shows. Funny how the brain works. Brian will be selling Tulips at the LSCO tomorrow. They’re very lovely tulips that you can plant in your own garden. Proceeds will go back to help fund Alberta Parkinson. Watch for the promo that we did which will likely cause many people to boo. I will understand.

You’ll also meet Lauren Crazybull who has done an audio documentary on the impact of residential schools. I was so impressed with her passion for the project and she spoke very eloquently. She hopes to continue the diaolgue on the injustices of residential shools. The event goes at CASA tomorrow night at 6pm.

I am looking forward to interviewing Dallas Smith and Florida Georgia Line when they come to Lethbridge on Thursday. The interviews will run Monday.

Hope no one gets bitten by any werewolves tonight. Be careful out there. (full moon) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHTc5n8aY-g
